Babies..

Today I saw three kittens and I thought: I bet some people love babies as much as I love puppies and kittens...

"The Social Network has sent you a friend request. Please accept it."

Eduardo, it's like a Final Club except we're the president.

So, it’s time to blog about the social network. Truthfully I can say that I haven’t seen such a powerful and poignant film, well, ever. This film was not only effortlessly fascinating but it was also inspiring. I went to see this film with my friend Henry and for two people who already pine for success and achievement, this film was particularly mind-blowing/ inspiring/ tragically depressing!!
The fact that this film was written by Aaron Sorkin (who also wrote the best tv show in the world- the West Wing) meant that it was almost inevitably going to be gripping. And it was. You honestly feel as if your watching your own generation being drawn out /formed on screen. For the majority of people our age, social networking is a major (if not the biggest) part of our lives. That one idea, the creation of that thing has literally shaped our generation. As Sean Parker, one of the characters in the film says “We lived on farms, then we lived in cities, and now we're gonna live on the internet” Its just SO TRUE. It makes me wonder- if facebook hadn’t had been created, would our lives be hugely different? Most likely no. It is almost certain that someone would have created such a mechanism with sites such as myspace around. However, perhaps we wouldn’t be SO engrossed, SO consumed by the internet…
Oh and it also makes me wonder- why isn’t facebook an accepted word in the computer dictionary? Surely its time to remove the red squiggly red lines under the word? Man up Bill, Mark would…

Never Let Me Go...

Yesterday I indulged into the wonderful novel that is 'Never Let Me Go'...
I'm only 113 pages in but already hooked. I thought in the lead-up to the film release it was only appropriate to see what the hype was all about. LOVING.
HOWEVER, I regret to say that Bloody Carey Mulligan is going to annoy me terribly... I just hope she doesn't change my perception of ol' Kathy H.
Keira + Andrew are lush, Carey is nush.

Vivement La Revolution!

I am increasingly regretful that I failed to attend the campaign against the rise in tuition fees today. Looking at photos is making me happy though, at least I'm feeling almost a part in it...

(Surely the second picture couldn't have been taken today... it's bloody freezing!)

K is for Vendetta

So this is my turn; my initiation into the wonderful world of blogging. Wish me luck.
Wanted to share a little something I read which I think is extremely interesting...

I first came across this in the guardian a couple of months ago.. there was a piece of writing by a photographer and above, a picture of a woman, casually holding a knife in front of a dashing backdrop of rather garish curtains..
Anyway, the story underneath explained the mentioned woman's predicament. She had been caught in one of the many blood feuds of Northern Albania. After the fall of the communist regime in 1991, there were no proper laws or police so people went back to the old practices of the Kanun. These ancient unwritten laws dictate that if someone is murdered, the family of the victim HAVE to take revenge.
The woman in the picture was waiting to kill her husband's murderer, but of course if she did then she would become a target and would have to not leave her house and hide indoors, indefinitely. The story goes on to say that she carries a gun in her handbag but couldn't be photographed with it in case the authorities saw it and sent her to jail.
This post would be so much better if I could actually find the picture I have been talking about, but I have been searching online for days and still no luck...

This one will do though..

Something tells me that no one will read this, or if someone does they will lose interest within the first couple of sentences But it really is interesting if you look it up and read about it more. Its craaaazy how these things are happening in the world and a lot of us are unaware of it.

If anything this post is just for you Lars. mwah
